Seen on a KU fan's t-shirt: God bless America... Except Missouri.
We are literally in the very highest row in the stadium. Our closest neighbor is a skybox.

Bumper sticker advice: "Wag more, bark less."

Monday, December 29, 2008

We are in the middle of nowhere, Texas, but we just passed a Stuckey's. I got online and looked up Stuckey's history from my phone.

We had Chinese food on Christmas Eve. Happy Hanukah!

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

I'm bored with being in the car and with eastern New Mexico.
Stan is having the John Wayne for lunch and I'm having the Rita Moreno.
I tried to post twice while we were in Petrified Forest National Park. Now we are at the very cool El Rancho Hotel, Route 66 site in Gallup, NM.
Blogger is pissing me off. Half of my posts get a "your carrier is not supported" response. Uh, hello, Sprint?
We have officially made it through the first of our three bags of Chex Mix.

They have Alco in Holbrook! I saw a bleach blonde head coming toward me and thought, "It's an employee." I was right!
We made it! We are at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ. This is the most awesomest place ever!
It is so nice to be in Arizona, where people know how to make salsa!
Should you trust food recommendations from a fat person or a skinny one? Presumably the fat one has sampled the whole menu.
On the other hand, maybe the skinny one has more discriminating taste.
At lunch, our rail-thin waiter was recommending dessert to another table. Got me thinking:
I love living in California, but when you want a chicken-fried steak for breakfast there's no place like a Nevada casino.
Now we are 20 miles outside Flagstaff and it's snowing.
Big news in southern Nevada today? The grand opening of Encore at Wynn Las Vegas.

Made it to Laughlin!
Seen in high desert just E of Tehachapi at 4,000 ft. elevation: old boat on desert floor w/ "S.S. Minnow" spray painted on side.
Motel beds suck.
Stockton had the worst air quality yesterday. A little valley fog this morning but not bad.
A crop duster flew right over us yesterday, but I didn't even think to take a picture.

Holy cow! Gas is cheaper at home than in Marin. That NEVER happens!

I have the song "The Three Bells" stuck in my head.
Another weird concept to me: a life so predictable you can write a song about how it ends.
Most of my pizza comes from Papa Murphy's.
I have to say the idea of branding a place is weird. I snicker every time I see a Hollister store. I love CA Pizza Kitchen, but as a Californian,
The Delta terminal at LAX is nice. Even the McDonalds has a quality feel to it. I ate at California Pizza Kitchen, though.

I miss the City. I even miss the traffic. I do NOT miss the suburbs - where there's not traffic so much as a freeway-shaped parking lot!
Of all the $100's we've dropped in Vegas, the thing that galls me most is the $10 bottle of sunscreen. Used 1x but too big to take on plane.

The Cher show @ Caesars was phenomenal. I was speechless!

Olympics vs. Cirque du Soleil: what exactly is the difference between acrobatics and athletics?
I have to say: I am not happy about all the McCain & Obama ads during Olympic coverage.

I love Waffle House!

Thursday, July 10, 2008

I am such a failure! Our rental car is an SUV w/ XM satellite radio. It is everything I'm morally opposed to. And I want one!

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

Back in Salt Lake. Only the 2nd flight we've been on since the Sundance trip.

Saturday, June 14, 2008

Assuming eggs dream (about someday becoming food for human consumption), wouldn't they actually dream about becoming a McChicken?
Just saw a McDonalds billboard with an egg and a thought bubble containing an Egg McMuffin. The caption read: "Every egg's dream."

How sick is this? I'm on vacation, and I manage to wake up before the Husband!

Saturday, May 3, 2008

Spotted: Guy at Denny's at midnight in a hoodie imprinted with the PacMan screen.

Friday, May 2, 2008

We just endured a female Elvis impersonator who couldn't lip synch to "Suspicious Minds."
Is there anything worse than bad drag?

Monday, January 21, 2008

Good day 2 leave. We were talking last nite about what decent weather (except 4 temp) we've had.
Freeway 40mph max. Rental car return a cluster. Rushed 2 make flight, now it's delayed.
Well, this a.m. has been an adventure. Woke up to 6" snow covering car.

Sunday, January 20, 2008

We were just discussing, though, how we went from necrophilia last nite 2 incest 2nite.
"Savage Grace"=excellent movie. Think I passed the lead actor yesterday in Park City.
Thank goodness, because free power bar from PC was all 2 eat. Not even hot dog @ SLC theater!
PC is definitely the place 4 swag. They don't even sell festival merch in Salt Lake. So many free power bars & energy drinks in Park City.
In SLC now. Seated in theater, awaiting our last feature. Had to rush to get here - no time 4 dinner.
Just saw an actual red carpet. No one on it, though.
Sundance shorts were overall higher quality (more consistent) than Slamdance.
Isabella Rossellini was @ the shorts program. She directed (and starred in) 3 of the shorts.
On bus now 2 outlying theater.
Ran N2 publicist 4 "Linguists" @ lunch; got Beerwhore button. Sat behind gay actor (Jason Stuart, I think) @ Queer Lounge.
Lots of neat running N2 people. Shared table 4 coffee last nite w/2 guys. 1 sat next 2 us this am @ Slamdance shorts.
This has been a busy day. Just went 2 forum @ Queer Lounge on social change thru filmmaking. Got some swag.
Some paprazzi were just taking pix of us. Looked around; not sure who was following us. Somebody said' "It's the guy from 'Devil Wears Prada'."
Period piece re: Latino skateboarders in Chicago in mid-90's also great. Super cute lead actor. Watch 4 feature: "Cexboy."
Slamdance Shorts 4=very good. Got a photo of S w/the actor & director of "Diva," which was excellent.
At Treasure Mtn. Inn now. Getting seated 4 11:00 Slamdance shorts block. More shorts (Sundance) 2nite.
"Otto"=not 4 everyone. I would have never thought of necrophilia as an allegory for capitalism. Bruce LaBruce has a warped mind.

Saturday, January 19, 2008

Quote of the day: "Do you speak Beerwhore?" I'm trying to find a button w/ that.
We just walked by a club where supposedly Paris Hilton was coming out the door. Crush of screaming people & lights. Couldn't see anything.
1st celeb sighting (minor). Jason-something. Gay actor/comic who was in something we saw recently.
In PC now. Eating Vietnamese. Lots of beautiful people wandering Main St., but no celebs yet.
The movie was supposedly a combo of 3 short stories by Isaac Bashevis Singer. Never read his work; the movie didn't make me want to.
"Love Comes Lately"=not worth $15. Our 1st big Hollywood flick. I hated the lighting and none of the stars were there.
Documentary was preceded by a short, which was basically a rap video - in Cree.
Talked to a couple pass holders B4 documentary. They saw Tom & Colin Hanks last nite.
"The Linguists"=OK film; incredible subject matter. Filmmakers & stars there 4 Q&A, even though it wasn't premiere.
At Olive Garden now. 1st show @ 12:45. Non-competition documentary. German movie w/ Rhea Perlman @ 3:30. Park City 2nite - gay zombies.
SOOO COOOLD! Forgive me, L, but I am in the dollar store fleece. Tried walking in just a ball cap. Made it 1 block.
Rough nite. Hard bed. Not firm, hard. And noisy neighbors.
http://cityweekly.blogspot.com/2008/01/sundance-black-and-white.html
We are not seeing any of these.

Friday, January 18, 2008

I do feel kind of ripped off. Even though the film was good, the theater was not full (despite the fact that this was the premiere).
1st film="Megane." Japanese w/ subtitles. Very good (atmospheric). Director was there but no famous Hollywood folk.
In line now. Got good parking - free spot on street 1 block from theater.
Overheard: "It's Raining Men" is the new "Freebird."
Funny: ordered vegetarian pasty @ cafe. Had to send back 2x to get heated. Good, though.
At festival cafe now, listening to "funky Parisian cafe jazz."
Got rental car. In hotel now. 1st show @ 9 2nite.
Got txt: "Our Audience Pulse is saying that Shorts Program V is an A+ collection of quirky, fun shorts." We are seeing this Sun. Nite.
Just landed in SLC. Wow, it is WHITE outside. I've been away from snow 4 a long time.
Sundance update 1: Got to SF early. Hanging out at mall B4 heading to airport.
